The Department of Revenue functions under the overall direction and control of the Secretary (Revenue). It exercises control in respect of matters relating to all the Direct and Indirect Union Taxes through two statutory Boards namely, the Central Bord of Direct Taxes (CBDT) and the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC). Each Board is headed by a Chairman who is also ex-officio Special Secretary to the Government of India.

Qualifications:

(i) Holding analogous post on regular basis in the parent cadre or department.

(i) With three years' service in the grade rendered after appointment thereto on regular basis in the scale of pay of Rs. 5500-9000 (Pre- revised) or now revised 9300-34800+4200 (Pay Matrix Level-6) equivalent in the parent cadre or Department.

(iii) With six years of service in the grade rendered after appointment thereto on regular basis in the scale of pay of Rs. 5000-8000 (Pre- x revised) or now revised 9300-34800+4200 (Pay Matrix Level-6) equivalent in the parent cadre of Departments

(iv) Possessing two years of experience in administration, establishment and accounts matters.
